Soundtracks; sounds, musics and effects (sfx) design, editing and creation; ideas and examples here ..
There is a sound environments section; - a soundtrack design 'DIY' section - design your own soundtracks; - a section of sound effects, 'logos, stings, fillers and idents' ! - a section of existing soundtrack pieces and created acoustic places
I've always loved sounds - especially water, storms, birds, places - and have become increasingly interested in how and why places sound the way they do
Sound Enviros
Many of the 'sam' library sounds are sound 'environments'; they are particular to place
There are many identifiable foreground sounds, but overall, each particular piece is unique, both in its landscape/cityscape 'place' - and its sonic character, as you can hear here ..
These recordings are very 'full' or 'busy' - there is a lot going on ! Pieces like these don't leave much room for adding voices or music, they are good as 'stand alone' radio, cd and music pieces though ..
Here are several sparser sound enviros that offer many composite soundtrack possibilities
Simple manipulation of such sounds as these may be all that's needed, occassionally we might add a few simple musical 'pads' or atmospheric musics over the top ..
(You may play both the sounds and the music at the same time - mix n match!)
(SFX) are different; they are the individual components of a sound environment or a ‘soundscape’ once removed - and are very useful in constructing soundtracks, making samples
Many sound effects are usually general - and often universally recognizable - squeaks, bangs, whistles, honks, bells .. all rather over-used .. there are a myriad of web sites and sound libraries offering these already
Most of these sound effects have been created by (just) removing them from their environment, like these:
The absolute best way of obtaining sounds, for any production we embark upon, is to go and get them ourselves - finding new ones, finding 'angles' and ideas that often open us up to a world of possibility, rather than filling up tracks with inconsequential noises
Sound design for film, theatre and radio can be great fun ! These soundtracks are most often 'composites' - collections of sound effects and environments that have been manipulated and shaped into new and unique acoustic spaces ..
