This is the free sound effects 'central' page; it contains a broad selection of traffic, city & people sounds and sound effects

These sounds are man made - as distinct from the nature sounds pages; please don't presume though that all the 'mechanical' sounds will be loud and aggressive; a lot are, but there are subtle ones to be found as well

Most of my sound recordings are environmental - sounds in place; it is very easy to extract individual sounds from these ..

The 'free sound effects' are divided into four sections - these do overlap somewhat; they have been 'categorized' after being found and recorded ..

'At dawn and dusk during spring and summer, Mumme would be poised to catch the calls of whipbirds, bellbirds, kookaburras, currawongs and cockatoos
The chorus would begin .. dense with the awakening sound of the dawn .. driftier, looser and less complex towards the dusk
The birds would perform beautifully, suggesting all the reasons why man has made both instruments and music to imitate this natural music
And then -
The bloke up the hill would start his water pump ! A dog would bark, a distant door would slam; an aeroplane would fly over - and the sounds of people and machines would obliterate the ambience of what Mumme was after .. '
